Ranz Louie Balay-odao and Carl Jay-r Bohol of the University of the Cordilleras (UC) explored the challenges and competitive edge at the Battle of the North golf tournament held recently at the par-69 Camp John Hay golf course. Balay-odao, missed several chances for an eagle and two birdies, however, made good save pars en route to 31 points to place 4th runner-up in the Men’s Class A Division. Bohol, who struggled on his short game, fired 19 points and landed 4th runner-up in the Men’s Class B Division. Both student-athletes expressed their gratitude to their school (UC) and its Sports Development Office for allowing them to play, the support of their parents, and their coach and World Cupper Danny Zarate.
For Balay-odao, graduating Business Management student, also thanked the assistance of Paolo Luigi Wong. Notably, a respectable field of student-athletes from Saint Louis University led by Team Captain Melchor Carlos Rabanes participated in the one-day golfest organized by Pilipinas Golf and supported by BCDA, One Sports, Cignal, DuckWorld PH, John Hay GC and sanctioned by National Golf Association of the Philippines. A total of 72 student-athlete golfers including elite and seasoned student-athlete golfers from the UAAP/NCAA battled for honors in four groups to include Open and Ladies divisions.
