UC TABLE TENNIS TEAM GUNS FOR GLORY IN NAT’L PRISAA; HEAT A BIG FACTOR

The University of the Cordilleras (UC) Table Tennis Team fiercely preparing for the National Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) to be held in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, April 3-11. The team compose of mainstays- Adrian Hassan, Chaelvin Freian Singson, Choi Sagun, Mayne Brayenon Arzadon, and Shane Bryan Domingo – teams skipper. Ken Ivan Aguilar as reserve player. Doubles Specialists Hassan and Singson captured the silver medal in 2024 PRISAA Meet, bowing the players from Region 7.

Hassan’s and Singson’s landmark achievement gave UC and the Cordillera region its first-ever silver medal at the
Nat’l PRISAA 2024. The team’s journey for this PRISAA Meet only intensified their drive to reach even greater
heights this year. “I eagerly look forward to represent UC in our quest for gold, “said Hassan a 2nd-year Business Administration student, adding that the unwavering support of his alma mater and their respective families keep their fighting spirit high.

Hassan’s doubles partner, Singson, a graduating Civil Engineering Student, offers valuable insight from his past
experiences. “We are dedicating our upcoming matches to our Almighty, alma mater, and our loving supporters,” Singson said, recalling his doubles partnership with Hassan in the 2024 meet. “We made sure that we played together every day to strengthen our chemistry,” he stressed. Team Captain, Domingo, a 2nd-year Business
Management Student, recognizes the need for continuous improvement like adjusting training hours to meet tough challenge from opponents.

The team’s rigorous daily practice schedule, lasting 2-3 hours, involves thorough physical and mental preparations to adjust to Tuguegarao’s heat and the intensity of the competition. Sagun, and Arzadon, first-timers PRISAA competitor in the doubles event said conditioning is crucial. Coach Erwin Shim Fonite plans home away tune up games for the team. He emphasized adaptation on the hot weather condition. The team also expressed gratitude to UC Sports Development Office (SDO) by providing them essential resources.

Daphnie S. Pelaez, staff of the UC Sports Development Office said some 99 athletes will be participating in the meet and performers, showcasing a wide range of talent across various disciplines, including archery, athletics, boxing, baseball, football, sepak takraw, table tennis, weightlifting, vocal solo, vocal duet, and Mutya ng PRISAA.
