BAGUIO CITY
The Baguio Tourism Council led by Gladys Vergara continues to care for the health of every senior citizen by once again conducting free medical services under the Good Hearted Volunteers Medical Mission held at the Seniors Citizen Affairs Office, Salud Mitra Barangay, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., on March 9. “We did not expect that our senior citizens would flock to us in need of medical services for their health. I am very grateful to our specialist medical volunteers, who gave their time and services for our elderly,” said Vergara.
The Free Medical Mission for Senior Citizens was organized by the city government and the BTC with the help of partners and sponsors from the Baguio Everlasting Lions Club, Zonta Club of Baguio, Baguio Medical Center, Unilab, Diabetes Philippines Baguio-Benguet Chapter, Natrapharm Philippines Inc., Abbott Nutrition, Dr. Dwight and Sofia Black, Pines Association of Nursing Attendants and Caregivers,Inc., Office of the Seniors Association of Baguio, Dr. Rey Leung, Dr. Brenda Leung and Fernando Tiong.
The medical services provided to over 500 senior citizens were Eye Check-Up; Eye glasses; Diabetes screening; Diabetes medicine; Blood Pressure monitoring; Hypertensive medicines; General Check-up and Well-being Assessment. There were also free medicines for those who had check-ups and free eye glasses, while while waiting in line for their check-ups, the seniors were given free snacks and drinks. “Maybe that’s why the seniors flocked, especially those with illnesses, because we have the best doctors, like Dr. Dwight Black, a diabetes specialist.
Many also had their eyes checked by the experienced doctor volunteers of the Everlasting Lions Club, who must thoroughly examine the patient before giving them eyeglasses.” According to Vergara, she was very happy to see senior citizens who did not mind the fatigue just to achieve their desire of getting their health checked for free. “Hopefully we can do a big medical mission for our countrymen who need medical services.” “ I am very grateful, this medical mission is invaluable to our seniors who need attention to our health from those in charge. Many thanks to Gladys Vergara and the medical volunteers for their sincere help to us,” said a female senior citizen.
