YANGOT SEE’S PUTTING UP MORE CREATIVE HUBS IN THE CITY

Councilor Leandro Yangot, Jr. is eyeing the designation of creative hubs in the six proposed growth nodes in the city and encourage both the government and public sectors to help put up more creative areas. In a public consultation led by Yangot with artists and professional associations of engineers, architects and urban planners recently where they agreed for the put up of creative hubs in the six proposed growth nodes in the city situated in barangays Dontogan, Irisan, Sto. Nino, Mines View and at the Loakan airport.

During said consultative meeting between the groups, they agreed that the city needs to come out with measure for the provision of creative spaces also in government facilities, public parks, tourist destinations and even private
establishment. A measure must be passed by the city council for the grant of incentives for private owned
establishments that provide spaces for the conduct of art activities.

Among those they agreed upon are the: creation of a new growth node in West Quirino Hill to further boost the city’s
weaving industry, more art galleries and museums in the city must be established and installation of art banks in
allowed establishments/ buildings to serve as repositories of artwork.

The consultation last August 10, regarding the proposed integration of creative spaces into the city’s urban plan was attended by artists and creatives, architects, engineers as well as City Planning and Development Coordinator Arch. Donna Tabangin, Supervising Tourism Operations Officer Aloysius Mapalo, and Dr. Raymundo Rovillos (UP Baguio Chancellor and Vice-Chairperson of the Council for Baguio Creative City). Councilors Isabelo Cosalan Jr., Mylen Victoria Yaranon, Betty Lourdes Tabanda and Lilia Fariñas joined the event as they tried to show support to local creatives.

The four hour consultative meeting saw the group agree to support to the proposed CHALOK (Country Club, Happy Hollow, Atok Trail, Lucnab, Outlook Drive, and Kias) Eco park wherein it is aimed “to promote environmental protection and cultural preservation while helping sustain and improve the livelihood and employment of the people in the said areas.”

The consultative meeting entitled “Enhancing an Urban Plan for a Creative City of Baguio and Identifying Strategic Areas/ Places for Art Galleries and Museums in the City of Baguio” was called by Yangot, chairman of the Committee on Urban Planning, Lands, Housing and Relocation Sites. Pigeon Lobien MORE CREATIVE HUBS needed in the urban planning of the city and avoid the urban decay was what a group of artists, creatives professionals like engineers, architects and urban planners agreed upon during a consultative meeting
at the Botanical Garden organized by the City Council committee on urban planning, lands, housing and relocation
sites chaired by councilor Leandro Yangot, Jr.
