BAGUIO CITY (September 26, 2022)—Typhoon “Karding” did not directly hit the highland Cordillera though some 139 families in four provinces sought refuge to safer grounds, the social welfare department said.
In Abra, 47 families consisting of 156 individuals were affected by the temporary displacement. Some 27 families or 94 individuals went to the evacuation centers while 20 families or 62 individuals were either accommodated by their relatives or neighbors.
There are 36 families or around 98 individuals fled to safer grounds in Benguet, as 33 families or 91 individuals proceeded to the evacuation centers while three families or seven individuals stayed with their kin but outside evacuation centers.
In Kalinga, 39 families or 180 individuals evacuated from their houses but were accommodated by their relatives and neighbors . There are also three families or eight individuals in Mountain Province who took refuge at the evacuation centers while 14 families or around 50 individuals went to their relatives and neighbors.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Cordillera also said there were no fully damaged houses but it logged in nine partially damaged houses. A full assessment of the damages in still underway, the department said.
