38 SEAG MEDAL WINNING CITY ATHLETES, COACHES TO BE FETED ON JULY 29; PHP2 M PLUS AWAIT THEM

The city will fete some 38 Southeast Asian Games medal winning Philippine athletes and their respective coaches late this month. Councilor Levy Lloyd Orcales said the July 29 event is the date for the victory party dedicated to the winning athletes and coaches in the last edition of the biennial sports meet in Phnom Phen, Cambodia. “We are looking for a hotel where we could hold such,” said
the youthful councilor. “I have already asked our city sports development officer (Gaudencio Gonzales) to prepare the victory party like what we did to the Batang Pinoy winning athletes,” said Orcales recently.

Gonzales said that the city through the office of Orcales will most likely have it bid out, referring to the venue of the get together with the SEA winners. “As usual it will be bid out, so we have to wait,” said Gonzales as this is the process they follow. He said that this will be a different event from the one stipulated in the new sports code, the December 7 event where athletes and coaches will be feted. Gonzales said that budget for the December event will be charged against his office’s
budget. This as the athletes and coaches await the release of their incentives.

Under the city sports code where gold medal winners get PHP60, 000, while PHP40, 000 and PHP30,000 await silver and bronze medalists. The release may even come before the July 29 date “depending whether the athletes and coaches have completed the documents as required by the COA (Commission on Audit), said Orcales. With the 8-13-16 goldsilver-bronze haul, city athletes
and their respective coaches are set to receive a total of about PHP2.2 million based on the report of Gonzales as posted on his Facebook page.

Islay Erika Bomogao will be present for winning the World Muay Thai Championship, the first Filipina to do so, on top of a silver medal in wiakru during the IFMA hosted event in Bangkok, Thailand which was staged almost exactly during the SEAG. “Malaking budget from the city, the sports allotment, na naman (a big chunk from the city’s sports budget again),” said the Sangguiniang Kabataan chair with a smile.

Set to receive the biggest amount are boxers Carlo Paalam, Nesthy Petecio and Ian Clark Bautista, three time SEA gold medal winner Jean Claude Saclag (kickboxing), kickboxer Claudine Veloso, wrestler Jason Balabal, back to back arnis winner Crisamuel Delfin and obstacle course racer Sandy
Menchi Abahan, who won gold in the four member women’s team relay. All are set to receive the full amount except, maybe for Abahan, who is expected to get a fourth of the amount.

Gideon Fred Padua will get PHP40, 000 as he improved to a silver finish from bronze in wushu sanda and Mariane Mariano, a former sanda player but has moved to kun bokatur,=. Leeariel Lampacan made silver in kon bokatur, while kickboxers Renalyn Dacquel, Jeremy Pacatiw and Gina Iniong-Araos are also silver winners. The others are: boxers Norlan Petecio, Nesthy’s younger brother, Roger Ladon, Riza Pasuit and Irish Magno, vovinam’s Emmanuel Cantores (60 kg.) and Hergie Bacyadan (60 kg) and wrestler Jason Baucas.

The bronze medalists are kickboxers Honorio Banario, Carl Von Buminaang, Daryl Chulipas, Danny Kingad, Kurt Lubrica and Jomar Balangui, as well as Jenelyn Olsim, Felix Davis Cantores and Zyra Bonas in kon Khmer. Mackjohn Neil Pineda and Ezekyl Habig in arnis, while vovinam has one in Jerlyn Kingad, while Estie Gay Liwanen won in jiu jitsu. Kon bokator has one bronze in Godwin Langbayan, while taekwondo accounted for a bronze medal courtesy of two time world champion Jeordan Dominguez and Kobe Macario, who were part of the five person senior team freestyle taekwondo poomsae.

Christel Rei Fuentesfina was part of the bronze winning team in team event badminton and will expectedly get a portion of a bronze medalist windfall. Under the sports code, athletes and coaches are eligible for incentives “if they have personally trained and rendered service to the athletes who win in international competitions at least six (6) months prior to the international competition.”
