BAKUN, BENGUET – Just a week ago, the three-day 5th Ayosip Festival was celebrated in Barangay Sinacbat of this town with the theme “Fostering tourist destinations and illegal drug-free community”.
The celebration, which lasted from April 6 to 8, 2018, began with a parade and opening program on the first day. It was on this day that teachers and pupils from BNHS-Sinacbat Extension, Sinacbat Elementary School and Alicay-Segundo Elementary School participated much, particularly in the parade, band and ground demonstration.
Teachers and pupils participated actively on the parade and program not only because it is required but because it is one of the schools’ contributions or roles in the community particularly in helping for the success of programs. It is also for the exposure and development of the learners.
The word “ayosip” is a local term for the wild shrubby plant bearing blue berries that are growing only on certain parts of Sinacbat particularly between Sitio Lupunan, Dalingoan and Panapan. These places are near Mount Tenglawan which is one of the tourist spots in Bakun. Ayosip also grows in a certain part of Bulisay, Kayapa, Bakun.
When Engr. Elleazar Carias from the provincial tourism arrived for the festival’s opening program, he encouraged the crowd to manage well the tourist destinations in Bakun and take good care of that unique fruits called “ayosip” or even propagate and multiply them because it is among the things that tourists love to visit and buy.
