ABCamp season 2 starts June 18

BAGUIO CITY – With the success of its initial staging last year, the ABCamp volleyball clinics starts a second season this Monday at the Lourdes Subd. Ext. covered court.
University of the Cordilleras Lady Baby Jaguars coach Sherry Anne Floresca said the five day clinic will hope to emulate the success of last year’s initial staging at the same venue.
Launched on June 12 last year, the ABCamp produced a current crop of players including practically half of Floresca’s team now that won the city title last year and the Cantada Cup last month.
“We look forward to another successful staging of the ABCamp whose participants will become varsity players,” said Floresca.
Last year’s ABCamp produced five members of the Baby Jaguars including Joanlyn Maddatu, setter Syzzle Rosario, Kier Sabas, Radinka Dumawor and Hanzelmae Antolin, who played at their level best last month.
In fact, Sabas, Dumawor an Antolin started having no knowledge of the game.
“I see some who could join your team with further trainings,” Yul Benosa warned Floresca last year. True enough, the former UC Jaguars coach and Floresca’s mentor was right that five months later, the ABCamp products helped UC to the Baguio title.
Floresca said that a second level training will be held maybe next month.
“I am confident that we will be able get young and potential players and they are so young,” said Benosa’s former libero, who played during the middle part of the UC dynasty and left after she earned her degree in education major in math.
Floresca helped brainchild the ABCamp, an offering of her team, which has been successful the past year with their winnings, to return their blessing through grass root training.
ABC is basics, which means the fundamentals which many players even in the college level lack. “It is better to start them young and avoid the pitfalls of its lack when they grow older.  Mahirap ng palitan pag matanda na,” said Floresca.
Camp is where one learns better skills and amp, the third component, is to boost. PML / ABN
