Are you safe at the sidewalk?

The Sidewalk Ordinance proposed by City Councilor MylenVctoriaYaranon is clearing all sidewalks on anti-obstruction at the city business district, then afterwards barangay road, prohibiting vendors, structures and parking.

How safe are the sidewalks now in the city of Baguio? City Administrator Atty. Carlos Canilao said that generally, sidewalks in the city are still safe. However, there are some roads that do not have sidewalk. So the city should have total plan and not a piece per piece temporary solution but to look and identify roads that needs expansion for sidewalk.

This ordinance is actually supporting a national law on anti-obstruction on road right of way which is one of the projects of the city traffic division. Especially that the city officials of Baguio is encouraging the residents and tourists to “Walk Happy, Baguio City!” then providing a safe sidewalk is must in order for people to really walk without their cars in avoidance of traffic and lack of parking.

In addition, in every road widening, DPWH shall really consider having a sidewalk and not a national road that will lead to another way of public parking. Well, come and check on it, we’re having traffic too much in the city of Baguio and even in La Trinidad because of too much cars and not even that were so populated now. Overpasses are crowded, grocery stores are crowded and traffic is everywhere. What will happen to people who wanted to walk rather than wait for the jeep and cab to come if there was no safe sidewalk on all roads of Baguio, either it’s national or barangay road, to say where there is no clear road lights also. So how safe are now on our sidewalk?

In the Bible (KJV) John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. Whosoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Well, nothing is possible if we start acting now than later; just believe. This is yours truly “Tita Ara Katter” ang iKit ng Bayan that always reminds you “Ti Panagkaykaysa, mangiwanwan iti Naranyag nga Pagsayaatan”.
