BAGUIO CITY
A total of P4.641 billion in taxes was collected in 2023 by the Bureau of Internal Revenue Baguio District Office (RDO8), and surpassed its ± 3.787-B revenue collection in 2022. However, it failed to meet its 2023 revenue collection target of P4.956 billion. In an interview, Baguio Revenue District Officer, Merlyn DV. Vicente, said its
failure to meet its 2023 target was due to the following factors – big taxpayers were transferred to the large taxpayers division, and low income tax and business tax payments.
Vicente added that income tax remains the number one contributor of revenue collection -sourced from National Government Agencies (NGA), Government-Owned and Controlled Corporation (GOCC), Local Government
Unit (LGU). Other sources are from Department of Public Works and Highways, Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, and the City Government of Baguio. Also in 2023, five cases were reported following BIR’s Audit and Enforcement program like the Run After Tax Evaders (RATE).
As of March 31, the agency has already collected o ± 1,012,733,688.06 (billion). This year’s revenue collection goal is ± 5,710 billion. Meanwhile, the BIR official advised taxpayers to provide only one email to the agency, purposely in
acquiring new BIR regulations, and events that would help taxpayers know more about tax payments.
