BAGUIO CITY’S TOP CARNAPPING ACCUSED ARRESTED

Swift action of Baguio City Police Office Investigators in recovering the stolen motorcycle and
identifying the suspect resulted in the arrest of one of the City’s Top Most Wanted Person by virtue of a warrant of arrest after follow-up operations. The accused was identified as a 31-year-old male,
a resident of Crystal Cave, Bakakeng Central, Baguio City, and listed as the City’s Top 8 Most Wanted and Top 1 Most Wanted Person of BCPOAbanao Police Station (PS7) for the 4th quarter CY 2023. BCPO-Abanao Police Station (PS7) served his warrant of arrest in Crystal Cave, Bakakeng Central, Baguio City on October 16.

The Regional Trial Court, First Judicial Region, Branch 61 in Baguio City, issued his arrest warrant for violating the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016 with a recommended bail of P300,000.00.
Investigation disclosed that the reported missing motorcycle was bought and pawned at Sagayad, San Fernando, La Union which was positively identified by the owner. The suspect is now under
the custody of the Abanao police station for proper disposition.

Meanwhile, in compliance with the directive of Mayor Benjamin Magalong to enforce a campaign against motorcycles with loud mufflers, the BCPO presided over a meeting on the campaign against Loud Motor Vehicles Muffler at Kapanalig Hall BCPO, Baguio City on October 10. The meeting was attended by the key officers, Station Commanders/Chief of Operating Units, BCPO Legal Office, and Highway Patrol Group (HPG) Cordillera. Baguio’s Finest intensifies apprehensions of motor
vehicles with defective or improper mufflers around the city, along with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Highway Patrol Group (HPG) Cordillera, and the Public Order and Safety Division.

Station Commanders set up checkpoints and deploy deputized traffic aids by the LTO to crack down on motor vehicles with defective or improper mufflers. The BCPO also tapped the assistance of the HPG Cordillera to deploy personnel deputized by the LTO to conduct checkpoints on motor vehicles with defective or improper mufflers. The team is to submit a daily accomplishment report
starting October 10 of the apprehensions done on owners or motor vehicles with defective or improper mufflers around the city. The penalty for the violation of the LTO provision on unauthorized or improper use of accessories, devices, equipment, and parts is P5,000.00 while imposed penalty for defective parts is also P5,000.00.
