Baguio rushes boosters as cases rise to over 300 cases in a day

BAGUIO CITY (January 10, 2022)— Baguio residents are now trooping at the vaccination centers to have their booster shots as the city records 310 new cases of Corona Virus Disease (Covid 19) in just a day on Sunday.

The Baguio City Health Services Office (HSO) said the number of cases rose Sunday, even as it earlier predicted a peak of 250 cases a day as the worst.

Of the number of the infected individuals, 68 are asymptomatic while 236 are with mild symptoms.

The city has already 927 active cases as of January 9. The total cases in Baguio is 30,993.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said on Monday that many family members in their respective households were the ones infected. He also said that he fears that omicron may be already present in the city.

Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Celia Flor Brillante said that the demand for anti-Covid 19 booster doses in the city had risen in the past two days even as cases dramatically shot up amid the threat of the highly contagious omicron variant. In the previous days, vaccine sites have been observed to be again packing people, most of whom held back from taking the shots during the holidays.

Magalong said that it only validates that vaccine acceptability in Baguio is high coupled with the fact that they believe vaccines will protect them from omicron. “People are becoming aware of the benefits of boosters.   We just have to sustain the supply,” he said.
