After her injuries and time dedicated to the formation of the Benguet Dancesport Team as well as the Cordillera Dancesport, coach Charibelle Pingawan is back to her winning ways as she minted two golds over the weekend in the Cebu Dancesport Championship over the weekend.
Pingawan paired with Reid Asian Baradas to win the gold medals in SE Latin 3 Dance and SE Latin 5 Dance in the 14th edition of the Dancesport sa Sugbu.
The pair coached by Victoria Huyatid swept their categories to finish atop the podium in Pingawan’s return to competition after three years of absence from the sport as a competitor.
The BDT wrote on its Facebook wall: “After two weeks of preparation, running back and forth from training to coaching her team, coach Chari won victoriously in the 2022 Cebu Open Sport Championship,..”
“I never thought I would get back to competing again. Since my serious injury early 2019 I did not have the chance and opportunity to compete.” She added that it was the doctor’s advice not to wear high heels until her full recovery this year.
She was then called a few weeks to go to compete again and she did, travelling to the Queen of the South city just after receiving her award in the Media for Sports Development BESTS of 2021 last February 22.
“Yes I am competing again. Finally, It has been a while,” she told this writer during the MSD awards at the Baguio athletic bowl. Pingawan is back in La Trinidad anew as she prepares the Dancesport Cordillera 1st Breaking andf All Style Competition slated on April 30.
Breaking had been Pedro Mendoza, Sr., the late former Gintong Alay camp director Narciso Padilla and Wushu Federation of the Philippines – Cordillera/Baguio president Tony Candelaria. Labsan has done the murals of Hector Begeo, Rey Tam, Jerry Dino, Erlinda Lavandia, Divine Wally and Jeordan Dominguez.
Banario is slated to do athletes from marital arts namely: muay great Brent Velasco, wushu sanda greats Mark Eddiva and Rhea May Rifani, kickboxing and wushu sanda winner Jean Claude Saclag, 2019 gold medalist for kurash Estie Gay Liwanen, karate greats Edgar Kapawen and Rey Hilario, judo’s Helen Dawa and Sharon and Ronald Dino as well as former three time SEAG gold medalist for boxing Alice Kate Aparri.
Alangui, the latest addition to the group of artists, will have car racing father and son Carlos and Inigo Anton, wushu taolu great Daniel Parantac, International Master Haridas Pascua, archer Kareel Meer Hongitan, golfer Mars Pucay, volleyball player Joy Baron, Ateneo basketball icons Gerardo Verzosa and Douglas Kramer.
