La Trinidad, Benguet – Showing high regard for Rep. Eric Go Yap’s deep concern for his province mates, especially during these trying times, the Benguet people via the Sangguniang Panlalawigan has adopted him as their own son.
In its Resolution No. 2020- 499, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Benguet adopted Rep. Yap on his birthday (May 11, 2020) “in recognition and appreciation of his sincere concern for the Province of Benguet.”
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan finds it fitting that Hon. Eric Go Yap be adopted as a “Son of Benguet” as a gift on his birthday, the resolution said. Rep. Yap, who gladly accepted the honor said, “It is a great privilege and a very nice gesture from the Sanggunian to bestow this honor on my birthday.”
Since my appointment as the Legislative Caretaker of Benguet, I always strive to exert my best efforts to serve the people especially in this time of uncertainty and crisis. In my personal capacity, I vow to always help in whatever way I can and I will continue to do so until the very last minute of my tenure as your Representative, he told the Benguet people.
Yap, of the ACT-CIS partylist, was appointed caretaker congressman of Benguet by House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano after Rep. Nestor Fongwan Sr. passed away on December 2019.
The lawmaker, who also chairs the House Appropriations Committee and vice-chairman of the House’s Games and Amusement Committee said in Filipino, “hindi tayo nandito para lang dumaan at magpalipas ng panahon, nandito tayo upang mag-iwan ng marka na tayo ay nagsilbi ng tapat, buong puso at buong husay.”
He vowed for his utmost attention to the welfare of the people of Benguet, promising, “tutulong tayo ng walang hinihintay na kapalit.” With or without recognitions and affirmations, my commitment and will to serve will never falter.
It is an inspiration but not my sole motivation, he stressed.
Yap while admitting that he is not a Benguet native, “ang puso naman natin ay buo at kaisa ng mga taga Benguet.” He continued, “hangad ko na sa mga munting paraan ko ay maramdaman ninyo na hindi kayo nag-iisa at kasama ninyo ako.”
The lawmaker though admitted that he has a lot to learn about Benguet and its people, he vowed he is very willing to learn, saying, “ang mahalaga, buo ang puso at kagustuhan natin makapagsilbi sa ating mga kababayan sa Benguet.”
Two weeks ago, Rep. Yap launched “Mobile Tulong”, a maverick initiative handing out goods and medicine to Benguet residents for free. The funds for the initiative are not from government coffers but from generous donors, the lawmaker said.
