The Baguio Tourism Council Thursday asked the city council through councilor Lilia Farinas to give exemption for the use of public thoroughfares and parts of parks that will be used for the An Enchanting Christmas in Baguio late this year even as barangays will be given slots in the December event. During the regular meeting of the council at the Venus Parkview, BTC chair Gladys Vergara asked the councilor, who was seated next to her to officially give
exemption for the use of such in the more than month long event that is the city’s premiere Christmas presentation.
“We don’t want any hustle,” said Vergara saying that the event is part of the city’s Christmas presentation as she urged the city council chair of the tourism committee to file the needed resolution to effect such. The event formally kicks off on December 1 with the Saint Louis University Christmas Lantern Parade at 6PM, where the various schools of the biggest university north of Manila compete with their attires and lanterns that is one of the biggest crowd drawer after the Panagbenga street dancing and float parades.
Activities are usually centered at the Rose Garden of the Burnham Park. Last year, the said area was converted into a
Europe inspired village where concerts, dances and even the Philippine Military Academy participated Nutcracker were staged. Moreover, Wright Park will be converted into an artists village in its Art in the Park, where artists will hold sketching, tattooing and painting. Vergara said that with the creation of the Barangay Tourism Council, expect participation from the 128 barangays of the city.
She said that they have done coordination with the various barangays and all expressed elation in becoming part of tourism promotion. Last Thursday, the BTC also welcomed the Baguio media as one of the sectors that comprise the council. Vergara said that they will help organize the staging of the media appreciation night that will be launched on August 28 and its staging on September 23 during its summit. president Thomas Picana said awards will be given to excelling journalists in news and feature writing and photo for the print media and news, featurized and anchor in the broadcast side radio and television. He said citations will be
given to practicing journos for 50, 40, 30 and 25 years.
