CITY COUNCIL URGES BGHMC TO ENSURE ADEQUATE COBRA ANTI-VENOM SUPPLY

The Baguio City Council has passed a resolution urging the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) to publicly confirm the availability of adequate antivenom to treat cobra bites. Authored by Councilor Mylen Victoria Yaranon, the resolution is a response to the recent increase in sightings of Philippine cobras in residential areas within the city which has raised concerns about public safety.

Yaranon said, while these snakes are not naturally aggressive, their highly venomous nature poses danger if accidentally provoked or harmed. The Philippine cobra, scientifically known as Naja philippinensis, is a stocky and
highly venomous species of spitting cobra native to the northern regions of the country. Among cobra species, it is recognized for possessing one of the more toxic venoms.
