LA TRINIDAD, Benguet
Two weeks after the Cong. Eric Go Yap gave his promised incentives, the province through the office of Gov. Melchor Diclas gave the cash incentives to Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association winning athletes. Diclas handed out the cash incentives to over 200 student athletes last Tuesday at the Provincial Capitol. “This recognition is to celebrate our students for inspiring their fellow youth with their achievements in sports and other co-curricular
activities, which have brought pride to our province,” Diclas said while also expressing his commitment to working with other officials to improve the cash incentives for these activities.
Governor Diclas also extended his gratitude to the coaches for their sacrifices and dedication in developing the
students’ skills and talents. He acknowledged the collective efforts of government leaders in supporting and implementing programs for students not only in sports. Last June 11, Yap handed out cash incentives to some 345 athletes and coaches for winning medals in the CARAA Apayao. Benguet finished with 47-81-72 gold-silver-bronze medals which came short of the target of second over-all. That distinction went to Apayao for the second straight year by churning in 53-57- 94 behind mighty Baguio’s 206-102-60.
Yap fulfilled his promise of doubling the province’s incentives during the send off in April in an effort to raise the morale of the athletes and work to beat Apayao in the latter’s home turf. Tuesday’s cash incentive hand outs were embodied in a provincial ordinance for winning athletes. Benguet hopes to wrest back the bridesmaid finish as it bids for the hosting next year against Abra. The governor also handed out special recognition muay Thai athletes Erika Islay Asiong Bomogao and Rudsma Abubakar, and their coaches Edzel Ngina and Zaidi Laruan, for winning
medals in the 2024 IFMA Senior World Muaythai Championships held in Patras, Greece, from May 31 to June 9.
Diclas also gave cash rewards to Benguet learners who won in the 2024 Regional Festival of Talents (RFOT) held in neighboring Baguio City.
