Domogan sa Beneco: ilawan ang Burnham Park

Humingi ang pamahalaang lungsod ng tulong mula sa Benguet Electric Cooperative Inc. (Beneco) upang muling magliwanag ang kapaligiran ng Burnham Park sa gabi.
Ayon kay Mayor Mauricio Domogan, nagbigay ng sulat si Councilor Benny Bomogao sa Beneco board of directors upang ipatupad ang proyekto sa ilalim ng corporate social responsibility program at ito ay inaprubahan ni Beneco General Manager Gerardo Verzosa na may hiling na ang lungsod ay magbabayad sa metered consumption ng streetlights.
Subalit hiniling ng mayor na ang ikabit ng Beneco ang light emitting diode (LED) sa halip na high pressure sodium (HPS) upang mas matagal itong magagamit at mas cost-efficient.
Sinabi niya na ang kahilingan ay pinag-aaralan na ngayon ng lupon habang ang pormal na kahilingan ay ihaharap ni Councilor Bomogao sa konseho ng lungsod sa pamamagitan ng isang resolusyon.
Sa kaniyang sulat noong Pebrero 9 sa Beneco board, binanggit ni Bomogao ang kasalukuyang kondisyon ng lighting system sa Burnham Park dahil ang ilang bahagi ay hindi naiilawan nang maayos, ang ilan ay may ilaw subalit hindi sapat ang liwanag samantalang ang iba ay wala talagang ilaw at hindi na ligtas na pasyalan sa gabi.
“I recall that sometime in 2010, Beneco lighted the whole Burnham Park at no cost to the City with astounding result, a fully lighted park where it was safe to promenade. However, when DOE (Dept. of Energy) implemented its lighting project, the lighting systems installed by Beneco was decommissioned bringing to its present sad state,” ani Bomogao.
Sa tugon ni Verzosa na naka-address kay Domogan, inihayag niya na handa sila na “refurbish and enliven Burnham Park and recapture its reputation as the City’s main tourist attraction.”
“The electric cooperative humbly desires to provide streetlights, their fixtures and underground wires around the park at no cost to the city. Based on our survey, the area would need 111 pieces of 70 watt streetlights to be mounted on 100 steel poles. The fixtures and poles will cost P3,975,958.16 but Beneco is willing to shoulder the same,” hayag ni Verzosa.
“We request though that the City will pay the metered consumption of the streetlights with the use of four kWh billing meters at various locations. The bill is estimated to be more or less P30,000 a month.”
Ayon kay Beneco board president Rocky Aliping ay handang isakatuparan ng Beneco ang proyekto at binili na ang mga kinakailangang kagamitan kabilang ang mga bombilya ng HPS ngunit muling pag-aaralan ang plano sa ilaw na kahilingan ng alkalde para sa mga LED fixtures. A.P.REFUERZO / ABN
