BAGUIO CITY
The Baguio City Council is pressing the City Tourism Office (CTO) to strengthen its drive against
scammers victimizing visitors in the Vacation Capital. Reports of tourists falling victims to scammers, particularly online selling of fake accommodations, alarm local officials, while stressing the need to protect Baguio visitors.
The city government should assure tourists safe and good experience and memories when they come to visit the city, local legislators pressed the Baguio tourism office. A number of tourists earlier vented complaints and frustrations versus scammers offering fake accommodations in the city. Worse, advance booking payments were carted away from them.
Scammers, cited local legislators, pose as owners of transient houses or legitimate travel and tour agents. Most of the victims are usually lured simply by relying on the pictures posted by scammers.
