Excise tax sa petrolyo, pinasususpinde ni Sen. Ejercito
Hinihiling ni Senator JV Ejercito sa pamahalaan na ipagpaliban muna ang pagpapatupad ng ikalawang bugso ng dagdag na excise tax sa produktong petrolyo para makabawas sa bigat ng pasanin ng taumbayan bunsod ng mataas pa ring presyo ng mga bilihin sa kasalukuyan.
“We only have to look back at our recent experience where prices of commodities skyrocketed when the first round of increase was imposed in order to realize that this course of action is a disaster to the people’s pockets,” pahayag ni Ejercito sa isang statement.
Bagama’t bumaba ang inflation rate ng Pilipinas nitong katapusan ng 2018 dahil sa pagbaba ng presyo ng langis sa world market, pinangangambahan ng mga financial experts na tataas muli ang presyo ng mga bilihin dahil sa panibagong buwis sa produktong petrolyo.
“Kapapasok pa lang ng taon, eh ‘yan agad ang ibubungad natin. Ang tinatamaan talaga dito ay ang mahihirap na pamilya. Huwag naman ganun,” dagdag pa ng senador.
Mungkahi ni Ejercito, mainam aniyang suspendihin ang ikalawang bugso ng dagdag na buwis sa produktong petrolyo sa loob ng anim na buwan hangga’t hindi pa bumababa ang presyo ng mga pangunahing bilihin sa bansa.
“While I agree that the government will get additional funds, which will be used for infrastructure projects, what I’m saying is that we need to suspend the increase for the meantime, let’s say six months, because the prices of commodities are still high and still keep on increasing,” ayon kay Ejercito.
“I believe we can afford a six-month suspension. After that, let’s assess the situation,” dagdag pa nito.
