First fiber glass waste water treatment system inaugurated in Bauang

BAUANG, LA UNION – The first fiber glass Decentralized Waste Water Treatment System (DEWATS) was inaugurated on February 12, 2018, at Bagbag, Bauang, La Union.
The project is in partnership with Department of Health (DOH), Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), and the local government unit of Bauang. Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association (BORDA) owns the technology used in building the project.
“This project is very important. It treats the water you use every day to prevent you from getting sick,” said Mayor Eulogio Clarence Martin P. de Guzman III.
He told the residents of Bagbag to help each other in maintaining proper health and sanitation.
The Bagbag Riles Farmers Association members headed by Shelbeth Ramos will pay a P20-monthly due for the maintenance of the facility.
“You must practice bayanihan to help in the completion of this project so that we, in the government, will also be willing to help you. I just came from the world urban forum with the city alliance where Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, Jordan, Laos and Philippines are members. The whole world is aware of this project,” the mayor explained.
Vice Governor Aureo Q. Nisce, Engr. Warly Ang Mahusay, BNS BORDA. Dr. Jimuel Cardenas of DOH, SBM Raymund Ganaden and Engr. Ramon Fangon of PGLU also attended the inauguration.
Vice Governor Nisce said that Bauang is lucky for having such a facility. He reminded the residents to take care and love the facility. This becomes successful if only they love their own province, La Union, he said.
“We should teach our children to have their defecation at the proper places,” Barangay Captain of Bagbag Eva Orpilla told the residents.
Meanwhile, the first DEWATS was established at Central West, the second at Leyte and the third at Bagbag. A group of delegates from the city alliance came to the Philippines to visit the DEWATS facility at Central West a year ago to study and to learn the technology.
The DEWATS can be a tourist destination aside from the grape picking industry. Livelihood can also be included in this tourist destination.  PIO-Bauang / ABN
