Grand Sierra Hotel showcases Rizal’s great works

BAGUIO CITY – Grand Sierra Pines Hotel located at North Outlook Drive, Gibraltar Road paid tribute to Philippine national hero Jose Rizal at an Art Exhibit dedicated to him on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 in celebration of his 158th birthday.
The exhibit was held at the Adkos Gallery of the hotel which showcased the works of Rizal such as the First and Third Editions of Noli Me Tangere which he wrote in Berlin Germany, 1887; the First Edition of El Filibusterismo which he wrote in Belgium, 1891; other selected writings of Rizal namely, Science, Virtue and Labor; and “Memorias de un estudiante de Manila” or Memories of a student in Manila; sketches of Rizal, 1889; and other pieces such as Rizal’s Chair that was made by the women of Malolos, Bulacan; a marble bust of Rizal by J.P. Tanpinco, 1908; Portrait Painting of Nelly Boustead (Rizal’s 8th girlfriend) by Felix Resureccion Hidalgo, 1889; and Litographs of Mi Ultimo Adios or My Last Farewell; and “Huling Paalam” by Rody M. Herrera, the first prize winner in the Jose Rizal Centennial Art Contest, 1961.
Most of the pieces about Rizal were obtained by different auctions and some are personal gifts to the owner of the company.
The gallery also houses paintings by national artists Fernando Amorsolo; Carlos “Botong” V. Francisco; Arturo R. Luz; Hernando Ruiz-Ocampo; and Vicente Manansala plus works of other regional and indigenous artists that aim to advocate Philippine Art by showcasing some of Rizal’s great works and memorabilia to promote the culture of the Filipinos though art.
