HIGHLAND SSM UNDERGO MINE SAFETY TRAINING

Some twenty small-scale miners from Mt. Province and Benguet recently underwent training putting premium on safety and health. The training was spearheaded by PlanetGold Philippines and Mines Geosciences Bureau (MGB), through the planetGOLD Philippines Project. The two-day activity was hosted by Itogon Suyoc Resources, Inc. (ISRI) as part of its Small Brothers/ Small scale
miners effort.
The Small Brothers/ Small scale miners underwent training with a series of topics for Mining
methods, Safety, Rock Mechanics, and Mine Ventilation. They also went underground for the actual observation of the Mine operations’ best practices. Participants include Northern Sagada Barangay SmallScale Mining Association, Inc. (NSBSSMAI), and Samahan Ng Mga Minero sa Barangay
Casalugan (SMBC) in Itogon, Benguet. The discussions during the seminar were led by speakers from Itogon-Suyoc Resources, Inc. (ISRI).
