KADIWA IN NIA APAYAO; FARMERS, IRRIGATORS BOOST FOOD SECURITY, PROMOTE LOCAL PRODUCE

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA)- Cordillera reported that its office in Apayao recently
launched a Kadiwa at the NIA grounds in Brgy. Flora of this municipality ,aimed at enhancing food security and promote locally produced products. Farmers and irrigators from various irrigators associations brought their locally grown fruit and crops were sold to NIA employees, clients, visitors and the public.

The Kadiwa sa NIA is in support of the agenda of our President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to make food supply more affordable to all Filipinos, according to NIA-CAR release. Engr. Samuel Bahiwag,
Acting Division Manager of Apayao Irrigation Management Office, said that this endeavor is hoped to further raise the standard of living of Filipino farmers through various methods that can increase their income.

The launching of Kadiwa coincided with the turn over of 10 irrigation projects to farmers irrigators which was also held at the NIA Apayao IMO. The irrigators’ associations (IA) that brought their produce for Kadiwa are the Sunrise ti Balluyan FIA, Saranay ti Pudtol IA, PADMA IA, Timpuyog ti San Francisco IA and Brgy. Allig FIA. Bahiwag is hopeful that more IAs will participate in next
schedule of Kadiwa and more consumers will support.
