Sep 25, 2017

From a 10-year old grade five student to her father and a limbless artist, they came and took part in the 1st National Police Commission on the spot art painting competition at the Baguio City Police Office conference hall Wednesday, Sept. 20.
Fourteen students from public and private schools in Baguio and Benguet registered and nine veteran artists signed in.
University of Baguio grade five pupil Sakura Alangui practically dragged father Ged, one of the city’s more known artists, as the father daughter hoped to bag any of the top prizes. They are also the oldest and youngest participants to the competition which hopes to promote community vigilance to prevent crime.
Alexander Musni, the 30-year old limbless painter from La Trinidad, Benguet, is also one of the hopefuls.
“Thank you all for coming,” said Editha Semilla-Puddoc Napolcom-Cordillera director as she launched the start of the three hour competition which her office and the Pasa-Kalye program conceived barely a month ago.
Contestant must paint the commission’s theme this year: Pamayanang Mamamayan, Kapayapaan ang Hatid.

“All participants will be given special awards, kaya panalo na sila pagsali pa lang,” said the police superintendent of the event which will also provide all materials to participating artist.
Pasa-Kalye convenor Maricar Docyogen said that senior high students under the arts track were invited. Contestants were from Baguio City High School and Pines City High School, UB and Saint Louis Center High School and La Trinidad National High School in Benguet. College students joined the open category.
