LA UNION CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS BY PLANTING MANGROVES

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union

The Association of Tourism Industries and Networks in La Union (ATIN LU), with the support of the Provincial Government of La Union, City Government of San Fernando, and Department of Tourism, celebrated Christmas on Wednesday, December 20, by planting mangroves in Barangay Carlatan in this city as part of the province of La Union’s “Pasko sa Kapitolyo”.

A total of 150 mangrove seedlings donated by the San Fernando City Environment and Natural Resources Office and Provincial GovernmentEnvironment and Natural Resources Office, were planted by various line agencies in the province. In his message, Airwind Bautista, Board of Director for Publicity and Event of ATIN LU, said the event helps advance advocacy for
environmental conservation.

“As an environment advocate, napakahalaga po ng ganitong aktibidad dahil alam naman po natin na ang bakawan ay nagproprotekta sa atin sa mga tidal waves at ito rin ang nagsisilbing habitat ng
mga isda na siyang magiging source of living ng mga fisherfolks,” said Bautista. The said initiative also featured the lighting of floating lanterns, displaying parols, and sailing a balsa, or sailing a balsa, or a small boat made up of bamboo, along the river.

Apart from government and non-governmental institutions, he said efforts to preserve the mangrove forests are also made by the local community. The event also highlighted the resiliency of every constituent and Bayanihan spirit amidst disasters and other crises. The event also highlighted

Apart from that, some 50 beneficiaries from Barangays Carlatan and Pagdaraoan received grocery items. “Sa paraan ding ito, naipapadama natin sa ating mga kababayan lalo na sa ating mga
fisherfolks ang ating pagmamahal lalo na ngayong kapaskuhan,” said Bautista. The ATIN LU is one of the partner organizations of the provincial government in promoting sustainable agriculture, tourism and economic development of the province.

The celebration manifests the province’s vision to be the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
