La Union commemorates Quirino’s birth anniversary

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, LA UNION – As part of the celebration of the 128th birth anniversary of the late President Elpidio Quirino, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) headed by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III conducted a flag raising and wreath laying ceremony at the Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union on November 16, 2018. 
In his speech, Vice-Gov. Aureo Augusto Q. Nisce highlighted the achievements of President Quirino and the inspiration that people of La Union should get from him.
Also present in the ceremony are Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members (SPM) Nancy Bacurnay and Geraldine Ortega who both led the ceremonial unveiling of the newly-restored painting of the image of President Quirino.
SPM Bacurnay shared that before President Quirino was elected as president, he was once a public school teacher in the Municipality of Caba and his mother is from Agoo, La Union.
The celebration was conducted in reference to Sangguniang Panlalawigan Ordinance No. 116-2017 declaring November 16 of every year as Elpidio Quirino Day in the Province of La Union to commemorate the birth anniversary of the sixth President of the Republic of the Philippines and first Ilokano President who served from April 15, 1948 to December 30, 1953.
