LA UNION STAGES PAGEANT FOR PEOPLE WITH DOWN SYNDROME; CELEBRATES INCLUSIVITY, ABILITY

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union

The Province of La Union continues to affirm its commitment to champion inclusivity and equality by providing support for province mates with Down syndrome. Ten individuals with Down syndrome took centerstage as they showcased their talents in modeling, dancing, and their prowess in answering questions on stage during the recently concluded event Mr. & Ms. Elyuspedtacular 2025 at the La Union Convention Center, City of San Fernando, La Union on May 5, 2025. The said event is part of the Down Syndrome Consciousness Celebration organized by the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).

Cheers from the crowd filled the convention center as everyone witnessed the production number of the participants. The celebration
became even more enjoyable and colorful as they demonstrated their dance moves in the talent portion. The participants also showed their wit in the question and answer portion. Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David expressed her full support to the event and reiterated her advocacy for more inclusive programs to support persons with disabilities (PWDs). “This celebration is proof of commitment as the Governor and of the whole Provincial Government of La Union to empower and uplift our fellow province mates with
extraordinary abilities and talents,” Gov. Rafy remarked.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development, through Training Center Superintendent II Virginia Sesay also lectured about the benefits and facilities that PWDs can avail and the best practices by some offices to uphold social inclusion and accessibility of government and private services. The program aims to raise public awareness about individuals with Down syndrome and address their needs. The activity also aimed to celebrate their abilities and correct misconceptions about Down syndrome. “We look back to the extraordinary resilience and determination that our fellow PWDs possess. We are reminded that disability is not an obstacle but a unique strength that can set you apart,” Gov. Rafy added. Attending families, various government agencies, and organizations showed their overflowing support to the participants.
