A labourer was stabbed by his friend after twice being refused of his offer to have some coffee. On October 1, 2019 at around 7:35PM along Kalantiao Street, Baguio City, Peter Peckley Gamilen, 49, single, labourer, and resident of Purok 8, Liteng, Pacdal, Baguio City was victimized by Alberto Gallego Orinion, 69, married, unemployed, and residing at Purok 4 Kias, Virac, Itogon, Benguet.
Investigation disclosed that victim and suspect who knew each other often met inside bars and coffee shops along Lakandula and Kalantiao Streets. On the said time and place, they met along Kalantiao Street where Gamilen held the suspect on his shoulder and invited him for a coffee but Orinion refused.
The victim again repeated his invitation to the suspect but still refused. Victim got irked and allegedly punched the suspect at his mouth that prompted the suspect to stab the victim.
Police Chief Master Sergeant Mayo Goyo and Police Staff Sergeant Sheryl Caparas of the Women and Children’s Protection Desk(WCPD) who were at the area arrested the suspect and recovered a seven inch long stainless knife used in the stabbing.
Gamilen was brought to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center and was only able to respond to police operatives questioning on the details of the incident at around 1:00pm the following day after recovering from intoxication and the effects of anesthesia introduced to him at the hospital.
The case was brought to the attention of Inquest Prosecutor Ma. Lourdes Soriano who issued a Preliminary Disposition directing the transfer of the suspect to the Baguio City Jail or BCJ, while the case was further transmitted at the City Prosecutors Office.
