Mayor, nagbabala sa pag-inom ng lambanog na hindi aprubado ng FDA

Iginiit ni Mayor Mauricio Domogan sa publiko at mga negosynte na sundin ang abiso ng Food and Drug Administration (FDA) kontra sa pagbebenta at pag-inom ng lambanog na hindi rehistrado.
Ito ay bilang pagtupad sa advisory ng Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) noong Dec. 12,2018 na humihimok sa lahat ng local chief executives sa bansa na siguruhin na ang lambanog na hindi aprubado at hindi nakarehistro sa FDA ay hindi maibebenta o maipapamahagi sa lokalidad.
Ang naging hakbang ng DILG ay bilang pagsunod naman sa FDA Advisory No. 2018-325 na nagbibigay ng abiso sa publiko, “to exercise extreme caution in purchasing and consuming the alcoholic beverage Lambanog specifically those not registered with the FDA following series of deaths that occurred purportedly as a result of the consumption thereof.”
Sa naturang abiso ay sinabi ng FDA na batay sa product verification at laboratory analysis na isinagawa nito kasama ang Department of Health Epidemiology Bureau ay nakumpirma na ang lambanog na nainom ng mga namatay ay mayroong mataas na antas ng methanol at hindi nakarehistro sa FDA.
“Products that are not registered with the FDA pose potential health hazards to the consuming public since they have not gone through the agency’s evaluation and testing. Thus, the FDA cannot guarantee their quality and safety,” saad ng FDA.
“Ingestion of products with high amounts of methanol poses serious adverse effects like blindness and permanent neurologic dysfunction among others and may even lead to death.”
Sinabihan ng FDA ang publiko na bumili o inumin lamang ang lambanog na nakarehistro sa FDA.
“Retail outlets and other dealers of alcoholic beverages are warned against the sale of unregistered products under the pain of being prosecuted for violation of the FDA Act of 2009, the Food Safety Act of 2013 and other relevant laws, rules and regulations,” pahayag pa rin ng FDA.
“All Local Government Units (LGUs) and Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) are requested to ensure that these products are not sold or made available in their localities or areas of jurisdictions.”
