MFF, LGU, ISINUSULONG ANG TURISMO AT KALAKALAN SA PELIKULA

Binigyan-diin ng Montañosa Film Festival ang layuning isulong ang turismo at kalakalan ng lungsod sa pamamagitan ng nasabing film festival, sa ginanap media launch noong Marso 4. Isa sa layunin ng MFF ay ipamalas ang natatanging kultura sa iba’t ibang sulok ng bansa lalo na sa Cordillera, matapos hirangin ang Baguio City
bilang Creative City ng United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) noong 2017. Ang tema ng MFF ngayon taon ay ‘Building Bridges Beyond Boundaries’. Sa pamamagitan ng pagpapakita ng ganda at kultura ng Cordillera, ay kasabay nito ang paglago ng kalakalan at industriya ng turismo ng rehiyon.

Ayon kay Department of Trade and Industry Regional Director Juliet Lucas, “Up to now Santo Tomas La Presa is very famous for not only vegetables but also the strawberries there and…the teleserye on [The] Broken [Marriage] Vow that was…starred by Jodi Santa Maria, who wore different types of our woven fabrics that heightened the market of our woven fabrics.” Dagdag pa nito na iinatayang mahigit sa 300% ang itinaas ng market sa industriya ng paghahabi mula sa Abra, Ifugao, Kalinga, at maging sa Mountain Province at Benguet.

“Aside from the direct revenue that they get from these films, we also are experiencing the repercussions among our other industries, crafts, and arts and so forth. What more for our tourism industries like putting this as a venue for our films and so forth. And that will also heighten tourism that will increase the revenue as well of the business here in,” pahayag ni Lucas. “We are really very happy when we started with Montañosa four years ago in 2021. You know, it has put Baguio City on the map of film tourism.

While RD Juliet already expressed the different ripple effects of possible effects of filmmaking to tourism, how many of these films can become an avenue for promoting a destination, like what happened with Santo Tomas and even Sagada, [That Thing Called] Tadhana, yan. That's one effect of film tourism,” pagsang-ayon naman ni City Supervising Tourism Operations Officer, Engr. Aloysius Mapalo. Ayon din kay Mapalo, sa tulong ng taunang Montañosa Film Festival, nakikila ang Baguio City hindi lamang dahil sa crafts at folk arts, ngayon ay pati na rin sa larangan ng filmmaking.
