More CAR Tourist Enclaves Imposed Lockdowns

BAGUIO CITY (March 11, 2020) –  More and more tourist enclaves in the highland Cordillera region suspended tourism activities in heightened efforts to parry of possibly spread of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 or CoViD-19.
Hours after Bontoc, Mt. Province’s capital, temporarily shut down its doors to tourists, the town’s mayor of Barlig also issued an executive order (EO) ordering a lockdown of the town.   “To further minimize the contracting this infectious disease, the Municipal Health Board, Municipal Epidemiology Surveillance Unit,  and Municipal COVID Task Force recommend the temporary suspension of tourism activities in the municipality until further notice,” Barlig Mayor Clark Ngaya stated.
Barlig is one of the favorite spot in Mountain Province because of its scenic views and virgin forests.
All sites in Kabayan, Benguet that included the famous mountain hiking mecca Mt. Pulag, were also shut down from visitors by town mayor Faustino Aquisan.  While Bokod, host of the breathtaking Ambuklao Dam, had also closed its doors from tourists.
The Sakura Park and the Haight’s Place in Atok, Benguet were also temporarily closed.
Though La Trinidad, Benguet’s capital and home of the vast strawberry farms, has not imposed any lockdown yet as “what is needed are strong precautionary measures where personnel will be deployed to the different attractions of the municipality,” said Vice Mayor Roderick Awingan.
While Lubuagan, Pasil, Tinglayan and Balbalan in Kalinga province have also shut down from tourists.
