NATIONAL ZERO WASTE MONTH IN PGLU RECOGNIZES MOST ECO-FRIENDLY OFFICES

SAN FERNANDO, La Union

In line with the celebration of National Zero Waste Month, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) awarded the winners of the Search for the Most Eco-friendly PGLU offices during the flag-raising ceremony on January 15, 2024 recognizing the Office of Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the Office of the Provincial Vice Governor as the Most Eco-friendly PGLU Offices. Other awardees
recognized were the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, Office of Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator, and Bids and Awards Committee.

Each office received cash prizes and a plaque of recognition. The awarding ceremony was graced by the Provincial Administrator Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III, Civil Service Commission
Region 1 Assistant Regional Director Cornelia M. Rillera, and Provincial Government – Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) Assistant Department Head EnP. Annalyn Rosario-Valdez. This first-ever Search for the Most Eco-Friendly PGLU Offices was conceptualized to evaluate PGLU Offices’ compliance and initiatives on environmental management particularly on ISO-EMS then further recognize and award those offices with exemplary performance on these areas.

The criteria of this program evaluates the offices’ documented information and practices on the five ISO-EMS procedures namely on waste, water, energy, air, and chemical management, compliance on 5s, and initiatives on environmental management. Aside from the Most Ecofriendly PGLU offices, PGENRO has lined up other activities in celebration of National Waste Month which includes awarding of CY 2022 Search for the Cleanest, Safest, and Greenest LGUs; Sukat Bukel Program; Operationalization of Eco-bins; and Distribution of Sulong Bayong ecobags. In the spirit of La Union PROBINSYAnihan, the PGLU will continue to strengthen its environmental management system aligned with the #KalikasanNaman Campaign keeping La Union as a more
environmentally responsible province.
