LA TRINIDAD, BenguetThe National Irrigation Administration – Cordillera (NIA-CAR) has
completed 39 irrigation projects for the first six months this year, initially benefitting 2,738 farmers and generated some 3,866 jobs across the region. The agency has total of 273 programmed irrigation projects for this year (2023) with a total allocation of P1.703 billion.
Based on the Status of Project Implementation report as of June 30,2023 submitted to Engr. Benito Espique Jr. by the agency’s Engineering Section Chief Sammy Kimbungan, these completed projects are located in Mt.Province (10);Kalinga and Benguet each with 8; Apayao 7; Abra 5;and one in Ifugao.
These projects are repair and restoration of irrigation systems both national and communal, repair groundwater pump irrigation systems –solar and communal; comprehensive agrarian reform program irrigation component; and repair of service roads, among others. In actual accomplishment, the agency has developed an initial 154 hectares of new service areas and restored
554.28 hectares for a total of 708.28 hectares.
Other completed works include 14.25 kilometers of line canals and 17.69 kms of pipelines. Meanwhile, NIA-CAR has completed 189 out of the 195 irrigation projects for CY 2022 equivalent to 91 percent accomplishment. It benefitted a total of 24,412 farmers gave jobs to 10,822 individuals. Some 3,024 hectares of new areas were developed and restored 1,000.25 hectares for a total of 4,024.25 hectares. Also some 17.40 kms of canal lines were constructed and some 32.64 kms. of pine lines were built.
