NIA-CAR finishes 161 irrigation projects CY 2020; completes 67 CY 2021

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The National Irrigation Administration – Cordillera (NIA-CAR) has reported that it completed 161 irrigation projects out of the 168 programmed for CY 2020.
While an initial 67 irrigation projects were completed from the 122 lined up projects for this year.
Based on the Summary Status of Project Implementation (SSPI) report by Supervising Engineer Sammy Kimbungan to NIACAR Regional Manager Engr. Benito Espique, Jr., as of October 31 (2021), some 13,675 farmers were benefitted in 2020 while an initial of 6,240 in (2021).
Total jobs generated posted at 4,561 (CY 2020) and 3,788 for (CY 2021).
Some 963 hectares (has.)were developed into new areas while 859 has. were restored for a total of 1,822 has. for CY 2020.
Completed irrigation projects as per fund include the following—Establishment of Groundwater Pump Irrigation Project (EGPIP); Repair of Groundwater Pump Irrigation Project (RGPIS); Balikatan Sagip Patubig Program (BSPP); Extension/Expansion of Existing Communal Irrigation System (EEECIS); Small Irrigation Project (SIP); Restore/Repair/Rehabilitation of Existing Communal Irrigation System (RRRCIS), among others.
As of October 31 (2021),the agency has already received an allocation of P1.343-billion for CY 2020.
Summary of completed irrigation projects per province: Abra 24, Apayao 17, Benguet 24, Ifugao 30, Kalinga 42, and Mt Province 24.
Monitored projects include Lower Apayao River Irrigation Project (LARIP) and Alfonso Lista PIP.
Other accomplishments (CY 2020) include restoration of irrigation canal lining (94.31 kms.) and pipeline (112.54 kms).
Meanwhile, for CY 2021, initial list of completed irrigation projects per province —Abra 4, Apayao 4, Benguet 3, Ifugao 3, Kalinga 5, and Mt. Province 5. For this year, the agency has been allocated P1.009-Billion. In 2020, it got P1.418-B.
