Sustaining PBBM’s food security program

To hasten food security and to lift Cordillera region’s economic growth . regional heads of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and Department of Agriculture (DA) together with their field offices recently convened discuss convergence activities especially on unifying ricerelated interventions through the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture or (RSBSA).

The meeting spearheaded by Engr. Benito Espique ,Jr. NIACAR regional manager is in line with the country’s Masagana Rice Program to unify and harmonize rice-related interventions geared towards increasing productivity and income of farmers. According to a NIA-CAR release, NIA, DA regional office, provincial, municipal agriculture offices have set up the clustering of Irrigators’
Associations which will be the basic unit of the program for the delivery of the different government interventions such as seeds and fertilizer distribution.

Clustering of irrigators’ associations is one of the key strategies of the Masagana Rice Program.
Outputs in the updating, cross checking and harmonization of the irrigators association members and farmers at the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture or (RSBSA) master lists were
presented during the meeting. Based on NIA social media page, NIA Acting Administrator Eduardo Eddie Guillen, stressed that these convergence initiatives will help among government agencies to complement projects and programs to maximize resources.
