OCD launches ‘resilience’ contests

Three months before the observance of National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) this coming July, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) challenges Filipino students and government employees to raise awareness on disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) by joining this year’s nationwide mobile photography and theme-writing competitions.
More than P450,000 cash prize awaits for deserving winners.
Started on March 19, the theme-writing contest is open to all government employees holding permanent and casual positions.
Proposed theme must be in Filipino, not less than five words and must not exceed 15 words following these criteria for judging: 45% for relevance, 25% for originality, 15% for structure, and 15% for style.
First place will receive P32,000; second place will get P24,000; and P20,000 awaits for third placer. While two runner-ups will be given P16,000 each, and five entrants will receive consolation prizes of P10,000 each.
Theme entries must be related to disaster resilience and must have a nationwide approach; it must be original and unpublished. Deadline of submission of entries is on April 30, 2018 not later than 5pm and must be through online via www.ocd.gov.ph website.
Meanwhile, the 3rd Resilience Mobile Photography contest opens on April 2 until June 30, 2018. According to NDRRMC Spokesperson and OCD Public Affairs Chief Romina Marasigan, the photography contest is set to promote the significance of resilience, and encourage wider public participation to various DRRM programs.
It is open to all Filipino students age 16 to 22 years old as of January 1, 2017, and enrolled in Senior High School, College (Baccalaureate) or Vocational course. Also, the screening and adjudication of winners are scheduled on July 31, 2018.
With plaques of recognition, winners will receive cash prizes: P48,000 for top placer; second place will enjoy P40,000; and P32,000 will be given to third place. Aside from these, entry adjudged as most popular photo will receive P32,000 and nine consolation prizes will be given P16,000 each.
