Over 300 Bauko school kids receive free educational supplies

HEDCOR, the country’s largest developer of run-of-river hydro power plants, provided school supplies to over 300 school children of Bauko, Mountain Province on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, just in time for this school year advancing communities through education.
Joemar, a Grade 2 pupil of Otukan Sur Elementary School recalled his anticipation and said, “Naragsakan ak ay makaawat sin nay da barbaro ay school supplies tay nu kabarbaro et maganasan ak ay man eskwela,” (I am happy to receive new school supplies as it motivates me to do well in school) HEDCOR said in a statement on Friday, June 21.
The kits came complete with supplies like pad papers, notebooks, and crayons, among others. They also got umbrellas of their own to fend off the heat.
Kindergarten teacher Emilia Pocate said that teachers are taking the responsibility upon themselves to ensure that their students have the right supplies needed to succeed in the classroom.
But doing so is also her practical and tangible expression of care and affection.
“Wada dan san naurnong ko ay crayons sin kabaybayag ko nan it-itdo ngem kaadwan na et masapol mansisineed da san uubbing tasay mausar da san esa ay pangkulay iman. Edwani ay wada di sag es-a ay crayons da yan mas mapalaklaka san udom di activities da ya mas malagip da din lessons da.”
(I have collected coloring tools from my course of teaching for my students’ perusal. However, they have to wait for their turn to use a specific color. Now that they have their own crayons, they can finish the task well and learning objectives will be recalled efficiently.)
“Due to incomplete or lack of school supplies, the students have missing gaps on their education and the opportunities for hands-on learning experiences.
Grades and test scores suffer if a student is ill-equipped. Without the right materials, kids disconnect.
Thanks to Hedcor, the students will be able to enrich their learning experiences, and also this endeavor from Hedcor ensures that they are getting the right and proper learning experience,” Otukan Sur Elementary School principal Isabel Balacoa said.
HEDCOR had always been dedicated in providing sufficient and comfortable learning venues, making it the community’s partner to quality education and children’s well-being, the statement said.
Some of its education-centered initiatives included financial assistance to deserving elementary and high school students as well as scholarship grants to college students.
HEDCOR also donates books, computer units and school buildings to its host schools, and extends its initiatives to educators through academic and technical-vocational trainings held annually.
50% of Hedcor’s budget on corporate social responsibilities goes to education, allowing every community a chance to achieve their dreams and pay forward to their towns in the future.
The company’s budget allocation on education is equally as important as that of health care, livelihood, reforestation and infrastructure development to host communities.
The municipality of Sabangan is home to Hedcor’s 14MW hydropower plant in Mountain Province.
HEDCOR is a run-of-river hydropower arm of AboitizPower and operates 21 plants across the country with a total generating capacity of 258.4MW of clean and renewable energy.
