P12.9-M Command Center in San Fernando City to start operations on August

SAN FERNANDO CITY, LA UNION – Pedestrians can have more confidence in their safety while walking down the roads in the city with the installation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Council-Command Center which will begin operations starting this August.
The command center, using the 52 closed-circuit television (CCTV) installed along the central business district and several intersection areas primarily on the busy streets, is expected to heighten security monitoring and deter crimes and law violations in the streets.
According to Julie Ann Hipona, city disaster risk reduction management officer, these CCTVs will help in apprehensions of illegal parking, quick response to vehicular accidents, and prevention of life threating incidents in relation to the peace in order of the city.
She said the high definition cameras installed in the CBD have fiber optic wires while some cameras installed in Dalumpinas Oeste and Pagdalagan entry and exit points are wireless.
Aside from these new CCTVs, the command center, which is located at the city hall, also has a newly purchased Public Address System or paging system; 4 new trunk-line numbers; 5 sets of Ultra high frequency (UHF) Radio with Global Positioning System (GPS); 20 sets, non-GPS; 1 set of base radio digital with personal repeater; and 4 sets of desktop computers to be used as monitoring system.
The city has allotted P12,938,000 for the project.
As guidelines for citizens requesting CCTV footage, Hipona said, “as much as possible we only give copies to the authorities, court, and police investigation, but for the residents, we need a copy of police blotter.”
Hipona added that footages from the CCTVs are confidential in accordance with Republic Act 10173 or the Data Privacy Act of 2012. ERWIN BELEO / ABN
