P25.5M given to 6 hospitals for medical assistance

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Six government hospitals in the different parts of the province received from the health department, through the persistent follow-up of Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap, a total of P25.5 million as medical assistance for indigent patients undergoing treatment in the health facilities.
Yap, who chairs the powerful House Committee on Appropriations, together with Gov. Melchor D. Diclas and DOH-CAR regional director Ruby Constantino, handed over to the chief of hospitals the corresponding checks for the said medical assistance for indigent patients that should be used up to the end of the year.
Benguet General Hospital (BeGH) got the highest allocation with P20.5 million while the Atok District Hospital, Kapangan District Hospital, Northern Benguet District Hospital, Itogon District Hospital and the Dennis Molintas Memorial Hospital got P1 million each for the sustained implementation of the medical assistance to indigent patients being confined in the said government hospitals operated and managed by the provincial government.
Of the P20.5 million given to the BeGH, P20 million was sourced out by Congressman Yap, more than P400,000 came from the health department and the initiative of Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque, while P99,000 came from the Kalinga Party-list allocation for the said program.
Earlier, Congressman Yap also sourced out some P200,000 each for the government hospitals as initial medical assistance for indigent patients aside from the P9.9 million that was given to the BeGH for the same purpose.
He pointed out the initial wave of medical assistance distributed to the recipient government hospitals is part of his commitment to the people of the province that he will work extra hard to improve these health facilities for improved delivery of health care services.
According to him, the delivery of basic health services is one of the major programs he wants government to heavily invest in to prevent patients from traveling as far as the capital town or Baguio City to seek quality health care services as they have nearby hospitals ready to perform complex medical procedures that are affordable.
Representatives of the different government hospitals given the financial support expressed their gratitude to the health department and Congressman Yap for his continued support in improving the various health facilities province-wide.
Yap is currently working out the re-nationalization of BeGH to help free the provincial government from the huge expenses it is annually providing the said hospital for the same to be used to implement high-impact development projects in the province. By HENT
