Benguet Mining District Logs 149 COVID19 Cases In Single Day

BAGUIO CITY (November 1, 2020) – Benguet’s mining district–  Itogon —  logs 149 new Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19) infections in just a single day Sunday (November 1).

Itogon Mayor Victorio Palangdan said those infected are residents of Barangays Ampucao and Poblacion, as a result of the mass testing done by the municipal government.

On October 22, 2020, Itogon recorded 74 confirmed cases where most infected individuals are living at the bunkhouses of miners.

Palangdan said they will be asking the interior department for additional contact tracers.

With the latest record, Itogon has now 402 confirmed cases with four deaths.

While the Benguet Provincial Health Office (PHO) reported that on October 31, 2020, Bokod town recorded the 1st COVID-19-related death.

This brings the total number of death cases in Benguet to 14.

The Bokod death case was a 60-year-old resident of barangay Daklan who died last October 28.

PHO’s report says she had other medical conditions aside from being positive for the virus.
