PGLU STRENGTHENS OFW LEADERSHIP THROUGH CAPABILITY-BUILDING

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO), conducted a
capability-building training for 50 Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) leaders from the Overseas Family Circle (OFC)
at the Provincial Risk Reduction and Disaster Management Office (PRRDMO) Hall, Barangay Sevilla, City of San Fernando, La Union. The training aimed to equip the OFC and its new leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively lead and support their fellow OFWs.

It also fostered unity and collaboration within the OFW community, building strong and supportive networks.
Resource speaker Czarina Anne B. Roca, Family Welfare Officer of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration
(OWWA) Regional Office I, discussed the social benefits, reintegration programs, and educational trainings available
for OFWs and their dependents. Glenda Oblanca Acevedo, Supervising Specialist of Technical Education And Skills
Development Authority (TESDA) La Union, provided a brief orientation on TESDA programs and services, as well as their online platform, e-tesda.gov.ph, which provides accessible skills training for OFWs and their families.

Finally, Provincial PESO Manager Charito C. Dator encouraged the participants to visit PESO for additional job opportunities to maximize their benefits from the program. Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David administered the oath of office for the newly elected officers of the La Union Federation OFC. “Simula po ngayon, kayo na ang tagapagtaguyod ng welfare ng ating mga OFWs sa La Union… Sana po unti-unti tayong makabuo ng mga proyekto at inisyatibo para sa ikabubuti ngOFWs,” she said. The governor also assured them of PGLU’s continued support and understanding of the plight of KaPROBINSYAnihan OFWs. The training, a collaboration between PGLU, PESO, and OWWA-Regional Office I, underscores La Union’s commitment to empowering the OFWs and ensuring the successful delivery of reintegration services for returning OFWs in the province.
