PSA to conduct the January 2020 Agricultural Wage Rate Survey (AWRS)

The Agricultural Wage Rate Survey (AWRS) is one of the continuing semester surveys of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). It aims to generate estimates of average wage rates of agricultural farm workers, specifically for the four major crops: palay, corn, coconut and sugarcane.

This is to establish basis for computing the average wage rate in agriculture. The Agricultural Wage Rate Survey (AWRS) is one of the regular surveys conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

This was done to give distinction to the survey as a statistical activity that focuses mainly on generating information on cost of farm labor. The survey aims to generate estimates of average wage rates of agricultural farm workers, specifically for the four major crops: palay, corn, coconut and sugarcane.

This is to establish basis for computing the average wage rate in agriculture. Specifically, the survey aims to determine the national and regional averages and variations on wage rates by type of labor (i.e. man, man-animal and man-machine) for the different farm operations; generate gender-based data for wage rates; and, determine the extent of women’s participation in agricultural production activities.

For Benguet, there were 15 sample palay households located at the following barangays in four municipalities of Benguet:

Poblacion, Atok (3 household samples); San Pascual, Tuba (5 household samples); Banangan, Sablan (3 household samples); and Dalipey, Bakun (4 household samples). The survey started on January 13 up to January 31, 2020 to be
collected by Contract of Service Workers.

The PSA is asking support from the sample households to give truthful and complete information to our trained Statistical Researchers keeping in mind that reliable data could help formulate concrete plans and programs that are responsive to the needs of the people.

Data gathered will be held strictly confidential under Section 26 of Republic Act 10625.
