The increase of bed capacity of Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) is now nearing reality as House Bill 6619 increasing hospital’s bed capacity from 500 to 800 hurdles past Senate without much scratch.
“I am delighted that our counterparts in the Senate have passed one of my priority bills which is to increase the bed capacity of BGHMC,” Baguio City Congressman Mark Go said.
The measure filed by Congressman Go has passed the Senate without amendments and brought back to the House of Representatives where it was referred to the House Committee on Rules for bill enrolment before transmitting to Malacañang for the signature of the President.
“We are almost at the finish line. We just have to wait for President Duterte to sign it. More importantly, our mandate of providing improved health care services not only to the people of Baguio but to our neighboring provinces will soon materialize,” the lawmaker said.
BGHMC started as Baguio Sanatorium in February 3, 1902 and later on changed its name to Baguio General Hospital in 1937. In 1970, Baguio General Hospital was designated as the Medical Center for Northern Luzon and Dr. Efraim C. Montemayor took over as chief of the hospital. In 1981, the name of the hospital was changed to Dr. Efraim C. Montemayor Medical Center in honor to the late chief. However, due to the clamor of the people of Baguio, it was changed to Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center last November 29, 1989. ABN
