Suspected Dengue cases soar high in CAR

BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded 1,681 suspected dengue cases in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) from January 1 to April 20 this year, way higher
than compared to the same period last year that showed 957 cases encountered.
First in the list is the province of Ifugao, followed by Mountain Province and Apayao. According to DOH-CHDCAR RESU Senior Health Program Officer Karen Lonogan, Dengue doesn’t choose the age by when a person can be infected.
She also said that the dengue virus is not just a trend during the rainy season but an all-year round situation that is happening in the whole country.
“It was a miss-nowhere ang community natin na ang dengue ay during rainy season lang. Dengue is an all-year round na nangyayari, and meron na po tayong increase in dengue cases suspected during summer,” Lonogan said.
Despite of the situation, Lonogan continued the dissemination of information to avoid being infected by the dengue virus.
“As part of the prevention of dengue, dapat magkaroon po tayo ng simultaneous na paglilinis hindi lang sa ating bahay, i-encourage din natin ang ating mga kapitbahay kasi hindi porket naglinis tayo ng bahay eh kung sa kabilang bahay naman po ang breeding site ng dengue, wala din pong silbi”.
Lonogan also encourages everyone to immediately seek medical attention if any symptoms of dengue are observed.
