Eagle of the Mountain, 17 teams including five foreign entries heat up ToL BAGUIO CITY- Eagle of the Mountain is back in this year’s Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) Tour of Luzon. On May 1 -Stage 8th final leg ,the first rider to cross the finish line in Camp John Hay’s Scout Hill will be declared the Eagle of the Mountain. Race Director Lorenzo ‘Jun’ Lomibao, Jr disclosed on Saturday (March 22) North Luzon press launch at the John Hay Hotels (formerly The Manor and Forest Lodge).
The winner -conqueror , who survived the gruelling 178 kilometers distance ,mostly flat areas yet punishing 25 kilometers uphill historic Kennon Road, will pocket 1,500-US dollars courtesy of DongFeng Motors PH. Lomibao, himself a veteran sports writer and covered countless cycling races both national and international together with this writer, said the winner in the General Classification (individual) could only be determined in the final stage of the tour.
Even a 30-minute lead is not safe, considering that one fourth of the total 178 kms distance from starting point in Lingayen, Pangasinan, is a lung-busting uphill pedal to the finish line. Lomibao said that to date there are five foreign entries are considered Continental- meaning teams that are racing in UCI recognized international events, and 12 local for a total of 17 teams . These Continental teams are from Indonesia, Taiwan, Hongkong, and the national squad of Singapore and Malaysia.
A team is composed of 10 to include seven riders, a coach and a mechanic. Anti-doping will be strictly implemented, following Union Cycliste International (UCI) rules .UCI is the world governing body of cycling. Meanwhile, MPTC, DuckWorld PH and Cignal signed a memorandum of agreement during the north Luzon press launch aimed at enhancing collaboration in organizing, promoting and broadcasting the MPTC Tour of Luzon 2025 to bring the fabled cycling race to millions of viewers this summer.
The countdown for the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) Tour of Luzon 2025 starts on Monday ,March 24.
