TOURISM OFFICE TOLD TO SUBMIT A REPORT ON SUNDAY MARKET EVENTS

BAGUIO CITY

City officials recently requested the City Tourism Office under the City Administrator ’s Office to submit a report to the city legislative body on the financial statement for the years 2023 to 2024 and the social, economic and traffic
assessment impacts concerning the creative Sunday or market encounter and product display conducted along Session road during Sundays, within forty five days from the receipt for information and appropriate legislative
action.

Under Resolution No. 738, series of 2024, city legislators stated that many iniquities and concerns were raised regarding the process of electing the participants as more individuals and groups are also manifesting their interest in actively participating in the weekly event. The council pointed out that prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the local government has been conducting Sunday Session Road to cater to micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) and offer community events as well.

Further, various individuals, groups, sectors and associations have actively participated in the citywide event to date that saw their products and services being patronized by residents and visitors frequenting the city’s main thoroughfare during Sundays. The closure of Session road is being done through the issuance of an Executive Order by the city mayor on a monthly basis where a theme for the month will serve as the basis in allowing individuals and groups that will be allowed to participate in the Sunday activities.

However, many motorists have complained of the monstrous traffic caused by the closure of both lanes of Session Road that extend up to the various alternate routes around the city. Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the City tourism Office under the City Administrator’s Office for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action.
