Two Cannabis Plantations Raided In Benguet Town

BAGUIO CITY (June 13, 2021) –  Drug enforcement agents swooped down on two marijuana plantations tucked in a steep communal land at sitio Bakbakan, barangay Poblacion and sitio Caang, Badeo, both in Kibungan, Benguet the other day netting at least P342,000 worth of cannabis shrubs and seedlings.
Benguet police and Cordillera regional intelligence agents immediately torched the seized cannabis and seedlings, said Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. Ronald Lee highlighting the continuous anti-illegal drug campaign of the Cordillera police.
At least 50 cannabis shrubs valued at P10,000.00 planted on a 10-square meter lot and 300 marijuana seedlings pegged to reach P12,000.00 were discovered in sitio Bakbakan, Poblacion after persistent monitoring and coordination with barangay officials,  added BGen. Lee, while describing the location of the plantation was very difficult to reach because it is very steep and will take four hours to reach.

Someone could not to suspect that there is a marijuana plantation in the area, the official added.
Operatives also discovered another 1,600 fully-grown cannabis shrubs valued at P320,000.00 on a 200-square meter communal lot in sitio Caang, Badeo.
Early Friday morning, at least five marijuana plantation sites were also overran in Tinglayan, Kalinga.
Police drug enforcement group operatives joined in by PDEA Kalinga agents and local Kalinga police in a marijuana eradication operation codenamed: “High Time” under the cover of darkness headed to sitio Balay, Brgy. Tulgao East, Tinglayan and found 10,700 square meters of marijuana plantation with P127,000 pieces of full grown cannabis plants and 10,000 seedlings.  
PDEA Cordillera director Gil Castro said the seized and burned marijuana was valued at P25,800,000.00.
Meanwhile, more than P38,000 worth of shabu were seized from a Street Level Individual (SLI) in a sting operation at Junction Bulalacao, Mankayan, Benguet on Saturday.
Myrick Tamolang Astrero, 33, a native of Alcala, Pangasinan but had since lived in Bayoyo, Tabio, Mankayan sold two sachets of shabu weighing 5.62 grams  worth P38,216.00 to an undercover anti-illegal drug operative. 
Earlier,  local Makayan town policemen with PDEA-CAR operatives met to validate an earlier tip by an informant about the illegal trade of Astrero prompting them hatch a sting operation that succeeded to catch him actually selling the drug.***Artemio A. Dumlao***
