YAP NAMED TOP CAR LAWMAKER IN RPMD SURVEY

Benguet Cong. Eric Yap earned an 84.2% rating as top lawmaker in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) based on the recent RP- Mission and Development Foundation Inc.’s (RPMD) “Boses ng Bayan” survey. The non-commissioned performance evaluation survey aims to assess the job performance of district representatives in CAR based on district representation, legislation, and constituent service. “We thank the RPMD for this, I was surprised to be honest but regardless of the results, tuloy tuloy lang ang trabaho natin,” Yap said.

Based on the “Boses ng Bayan” survey, Yap was followed by Mark Go of Baguio City with an 82.8% job performance rating while at close third is Solomon Chungalao of Ifugao who scored 80.5% Rounding out the performance survey of the RPMD from fourth to seventh are Maximo Dalog Jr. of Mountain Province (72.6%), Allen Jesse Mangaoang of Kalinga (63.2%), Ching Bernos of Abra (62.8%), and Eleanor Bulut-Begtang of Apayao with 57.5%.

According to RPMD, these results highlight the need for ongoing evaluation and improvement of public officials to ensure they fulfill their responsibilities and serve their constituents to the best of their ability.  RPMD said the “House of Representatives Public Satisfaction” in CAR survey was part of the national poll “RPMD’s Boses ng Bayan” conducted February 25–March 8, 2023 and surveyed per district in every region with a total of 10,000 respondents who were registered voters.

“While survey results on performance such as this is always a welcome news, ultimately, mas gusto natin makita yung direct impact ng trabaho natin sa komunidad. Nabawasan ba ang nagugutom? Nadagdagan ba ang nakakapagaral? Napadali ba ang pamumuhay ng mga farmers and informal sector workers natin? Napadali ba ang access sa social services ng mga tao? Nararamdaman ba nila ang development? These, among others, ang mga issues na gusto natin tugunan and that will always be our direction, yung mas bumuti yung lagay ng mga tao,” added Yap.

The sampling margin of error is ±1 percent with a 95% confidence level. They were randomly chosen, and the number of respondents per district was distributed proportionally based on official voting population data. In January, Yap was also named among the top performing legislators after garnering high marks for approval and trust in a survey by RPMD ranking seventh among 251 district representatives, both in terms of work performance rating based on the statistical research. Yap was the only one among the 6 lawmakers in the Cordillera who made it in the list.

“This is a thankless job, sabi ng iba, I dont have to go beyond my function kasi ang trabaho natin ay gumawa lang ng batas. But if you do only that, parang nashortchange naman ang tao and we dont want that, we would to like to set a higher benchmark. So from time to time, yung mga ganitong survey is a breath of fresh air, but it will not define us as a leader, the improved living conditions of our people will,” Yap closed.
