60 MINUTE PAUSE FOR KALIKASAN NAMAN: LA UNION PARTAKES IN EARTH HOUR 2024

LUNA, La Union

A total of 4,230 individuals showed #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan by attending the #EarthHour2024 program
prepared by the Provincial Government of La Union under the Leadership of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David in partnership with the Municipality of Luna led by Mayor Gary N. Pinzon on March 23, 2024 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Namacpacan, Luna, La Union. Simultaneous to this, all La Union households and offices were
encouraged to voluntarily take part in switching off nonessential energy-consuming appliances and lights from 8:30
to 9:00 in the evening.

“The Provincial Government of La Union stands together with the Philippines, and the whole world in giving our home an hour to pause, to breathe, and to, hopefully, heal from our daily usage of energy that harms it. This contribution, no matter how small, can make a difference. Ang ating pakikipag La Union PROBINSYAnihan sa buong mundo sa pamamagitan ng pagpatay ng mga ilaw natin ngayong gabi raises awareness on climate change,
greenhouse gasses, and overusage of electricity, among others, that negatively affect the Earth,” said Gov. Rafy in her message delivered by PG-ENRO Head Annalyn Rosario-Valdez.

Mayor Pinzon expressed his commitment to leading the Municipality in making sure that the practice of Earth Hour
will go beyond 60 minutes of lights off to daily practices of taking care of the environment as he said, “LGU Luna Officials and constituents commit to keep our kalikasan safe.” It was highlighted that Luna, being known as among the major tourist destinations in La Union, needs to give high regard to protecting nature. .The theme #BiggestHourforEarth was celebrated not only through the simultaneous lights off but also through the ceremonial lighting of candles forming the 60+ figure; singing of unity song; and light dance presentation of all High Schools in Luna.

Also in attendance in the event were Vice Gov. Mario Eduardo Ortega, First District Board Members Chary Nisce and Gerard Ostrea, San Gabriel Mayor Lany Carbonell, Bangar Mayor Joy Merin, Luna Vice Mayor Romeo Resurreccion
and the Sangguniang Bayan Members, Barangay Captains and Officials, Sangguniang Kabataan Officials, School
Heads and Teachers, and residents. The Earth Hour celebration served as another manifestation of La Union PROBINSYAnihan not only in protecting #KalikasanNaman but also in taking great strides in positioning La Union as the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
